The Leadership Council is made up of church ministry staff, officers, and the leaders of the Ministry Teams. A primary function of this council is to encourage church unity and the fruitfulness of all of our ministries by helping the leaders communicate and cooperate more effectively. To this end, we hold monthly gatherings which have the following three-fold purpose:
First, we want to study God's Word and pray. Jesus said, "I am the vine, you are the branches…If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." In other words, if we want our church to fulfill its mission successfully, we must allow the Lord to lead us through his Word and through prayer.
Second, we want to learn what each team is doing and how we can help each other. God's Word tells us we are different parts of one body and that each part needs the others. (1 Corinthians 12:14ff) Therefore, at each meeting, we will ask for brief reports on what your teams are planning and doing and what, if anything, we can do to help.
Third, we want to work together to formulate strategic plans that will help our church grow. God's word exhorts us to "be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose" (Philippians 2:2) and to "agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought." (1 Corinthians 1:10) In the Body of Christ, each part may have its unique own function, but if the parts do not work together, the Body will be in trouble. To work together effectively, we must first look together at the big picture--where is God leading our church?--and then develop plans that will enable us to accomplish his purposes together. If you think of the church as a boat, we will not go anywhere if everyone is rowing in a different direction. However, if we can come to agreement on the direction God has for us, we can work together to make it happen.

“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is shoving mercy, let him do it cheerfully.” Romans 12:4-8
Please prayerfully consider what special gifts and talents God has given you and how you can use them to serve God’s Kingdom here at Calvary Baptist Church.
