Pastor Mike Ambrose

Mike Ambrose has served as pastor of Calvary Baptist since 1990.  He is a graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  Before coming to Torrington, he served two churches in the Midwest, as an Associate Pastor for Youth and Christian Education and as a pastor.  Mike has a passion for sharing the gospel, seeing persons come to Christ and then helping them grow to maturity in Christ.  One of the things he loves about Calvary Baptist is the way people love and accept one another.  "Many people come here out of great brokenness and find in our fellowship the healing love of Christ."

Mike and his wife Betsy met at Gordon College and have been married for thirty three years.  They have four children and four grandchildren (so far!).

In his spare time, Mike enjoys bicycling, playing softball, reading fiction and non-fiction books (especially history and biographies), and spending time with his family.

Junior High Youth Group Leader Rich Cooper

Rich Cooper has served at Calvary for most of his adult life working with children and youth.  When he was only 18, he started serving on the Christian Education Board here and later volunteered with youth programming for the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut.  He has always had a passion for working with both Junior and Senior High youth.  Rich is now serving as the Junior High Youth Group Leader and is leader of the Discipleship Team at Calvary as well.  He enjoys helping youth grow in their faith and learn God's word.  One of the things he loves to see is youth accepting Jesus Christ into their hearts; and he is always moved when one of the youth takes the step of baptism at our church.

Rich has lived in Torrington all his life.  He has two children- his oldest daugher Karissa, and his son Kenneth- who keep this dad very busy. The family also has two dogs, Reef and Yoshi.  In his spare time, Rich loves spending time with his family and friends. He also likes watching movies and sometimes acting like a big kid.

Administrative Assistant

Elaine Hanscom

Elaine Hanscom began serving as the administrative assistant at Calvary Baptist in August of 2008.   As administrative assistant, her role is to facilitate communication among all areas of church operations.  Elaine has a background in human services, having worked for the state’s welfare department for 11 years, and is excited about spreading the word about Calvary’s mission to others.

Elaine has lived in Torrington with her husband Dan for more than a dozen years.  They have 3 children who keep them very busy.  In her precious spare time, Elaine is an avid reader.  In the community, Elaine serves children as a Girl Scout leader, active PTO member and as secretary of the Torrington Early Childhood Collaborative.
